It's almost Autumn!
It's been a wild Summer and honestly, I am glad it's over! I've been through some good times and some bad. I hope you had a good one, and if you had difficulties too, I hope you learned from it as I have.

I had to institute a number of changes here at ONE STOP as a result of recent events, again some good and some not so good. Let's get to it.

Is PayPal Really Your Friend?
This new article pretty much sums up my Summer. While some of you may have heard my story already, others have not. I wrote it to warn you of trouble that may lay ahead for you if you use PayPal and plan to continue using them as your business grows.

The ONE STOP Affiliate Program has come to an end
I can't say I am totally thrilled by it, but I've had to put an end to the affiliate program. You may not realize it, but most of my client work is not paid for through the site. In almost every case, a client contacts me via email or phone to discuss any potential project first and ends up sending payments directly through PayPal bypassing ONE STOP altogether. For big jobs, I usually charge half up front and half upon completion, which the site is not actually set up to handle.

It's only been due to the fact that Fusion Quest is so compatible with PayPal, that I've been able to keep track of affiliate sales of my business services. Not only does Fusion Quest keep track of affiliates, referrals and web site sales, they can also notify me when an affiliate's referral pays me through PayPal, even if they don't click the "Buy" button on the site.

Your friends and contacts will still benefit by working with me due to the quality of service I provide and I'm still happy to pay for referrals, but since I am no longer using PayPal, it will be impossible to know whom you have referred unless they tell me. I talk with everyone I work with and have started asking where they heard about me. If your referrals will let me know you sent them, I will still be glad to pay you 10% of every job you send my way. And, as an incentive for mentioning you, I'll even give your referrals 10% off just for letting me know you sent them.

This system might even work better than the old affiliate program. :) We'll see.

Merchant Account
What do you do when you want to accept payments online without a third party processor like PayPal? You get a merchant account so you can accept credit card payments directly.

Six years ago, it was very expensive and even difficult to get your own merchant account, especially for an online business. Today it's easy! I signed up with a "free" merchant account and honestly, I couldn't be happier! Of course it's not exactly free, but there are no set-up fees and no monthly fees until the end of your first month. The monthly fees vary, depending on the services you choose to provide, but they seem to average around $50-75. If you sell more than that every month, there's absolutely no reason not to have your own merchant account!

ONE STOP Internet Business Blog
In the last update I told you that I would start using a blog and it is finally set up and ready to go! This will be the last formal member update. In future look for current news and tips at the new ONE STOP Internet Business Blog!

Autoresponder Trouble
I'm sure some of you have noticed that my autoresponders suddenly stopped working. I reset them and they are working once again. If you were subscribed to one of the free information series when they went down (or if you tried to subscribe but never got anything,) I apologize and invite you to resubscribe to either Top 21 Myths of Online Business or the Welcome series to start receiving them again.

I'd also like to ask Members to let me know when these things happen. I don't know how long they were down and only just discovered it on my own.

Are You Listed on SPAM Blacklists?
 I think this is a great question, one that we've all pondered at one time or another. Now you can find out! Just follow the easy steps outlined in D.K. Wilson's article. (Only one group has me listed as a spammer and it looks like they list everyone! yay!)

New Recommendations
Those of you who may have noticed that FTP Commander no longer offers a free version will be glad to know that I've replaced that recommendation on the Web Sites page inside the Members Area. I've actually gone through all my current recommendations and deleted or replaced everything that is no longer available, including the free pro safelist and a once-and-for-all sequential autoresponder solution. If you haven't visited the Members Area in a while, be sure to take a look at what's new.
