OYour God is My God

Oby Gwenneth Morgan

I have noticed a differentiation by some between "their" God and someone else's, as if one religious group might be worshipping a totally different entity as another. Quite frankly this blows my mind.

Surely, no matter what belief system you adhere to, you must accept that we all come from the same source. You may feel that others misunderstand that source, but you realize that whoever or whatever created us, created us all.

We have each, in our own ways, searched for the answers to Life, the Universe and Everything, just as most of the people who came before us. We all want to know why we are here, what is our purpose, why is there suffering, how can we live our lives in the best way. There have been many, many great prophets/philosophers/thinkers before us, each was motivated by the same desire to answer these questions. Each was propelled to greatness by spreading a message that resonated as truth with large numbers of people. Your God is not any different than my God, only our interpretations of the Creator may differ.

The great masters are all to be admired and respected whether you believe in their message or not. Why? Because we are all on the same quest and all the work of previous generations contributes to the furthering of our knowledge. We do not have to come up with every valuable thought since the beginning of time, we have a wealth of information to choose from that spans the range of almost every possible perspective. Every single master has had something to contribute to the world and even to you personally, if in no other way than to get you to think or re-examine your own understanding, regardless of whether they changed your mind or not.

With the understanding that we are all the same, we can see through the centuries, that different names and understanding of God have only come as a result of regional differences. No matter what name one applies to the Creator, it is this one Creator that we are all trying to understand and that's what we're all talking about when discussing the mysteries of life. "Different" Gods may have different characteristics, but again that is due to interpretation. Just because you and I may view the Creator in different terms, does not mean we are talking about two different entities. There is one Creator and mankind has, from the beginning of time, tried to make sense of it from many different perspectives.

Because perception and interpretation play such an important part in our understanding of the Creator, the messages from the great masters have varied, but there are many common truths at the foundation of all of their messages. Universal Truth is the same for everyone or else it wouldn't be Universal. I believe we can find Universal truth in the similarities within the messages of the great masters.
