A Brief History of the World by Gwenneth Morgan

At one time, the world was pretty much run by women. It's understandable. Early man, seeing a woman give birth to a new human, would naturally want to help her. He looked to her for direction and did his best to provide whatever was needed.

Women even became leaders. Again, perfectly understandable when you consider that men did the hunting while the women had the safer responsibility of caring for children. Women who lived longer and learned more than anyone else became the natural choice to turn to for guidance.

So what happened?

Well, sit back and open your mind because I am about to tell you the story from an uncommon perspective.

Imagine, if you will, a group of men sitting together complaining about the world in general as the cause of their troubles, eerily reminiscent of modern man. Not once considering that the cause of their problems might lie within themselves, they finally decide its the way that society is run and, "if MEN were in charge, things would be different!" They began to formulate a plan to make it so.

I believe these men were involved in the the creation of the Old Testament. It is so slanted toward masculine energy and also minimizes the female role and value as much as possible. For the first time in history, God was one male being, all knowing, all powerful. While it begins in the twelfth century B.C., it contains patriarchal stories throughout the years, right up until the time of Jesus Christ.

Of course, their movement really gained momentum during Christ's time. In Christ, these men saw an opportunity to portray their beliefs as fact, with devastating consequences for anyone who dared to think otherwise. They combined his message with their own and Christianity was born.

The Crusades. An unbelievable thousand years of killing and persecution in the name of the most loving man who ever walked the earth. This is the most complete execution of any revolution the history of man has ever known. Today it can be difficult to find information on cultures that existed before Christ.

The Dark Ages. Thousands and thousands of intelligent, free thinking and outspoken people perished as a result of the Crusades. People (especially women) were persecuted and murdered for practicing the old ways. The old knowledge was forbidden. The entire slate was simply wiped clean.

We now had to re-learn everything mankind had ever learned, but with one dramatic difference. Men we calling the shots now and wealth and power came to be valued more highly than human life.

The Renaissance. All creatures evolve and Mankind has a unique capacity for learning. It was slow progress, but eventually we started to think and learn again.

The Industrial Age. Man continues to forge ahead to improve the quality of life. Great!

Today. Yes, we have lots of great technology, gadgets and things. But, in many ways, wealth and power are still valued more highly than human life. While we have cell phones and wireless internet access, we still have many of the same social problems that have plagued man for centuries.

Tomorrow. We are living in an exciting time in history. If we now start to think of this ongoing lack of balance and respect as the old way, or the Dark, we can start to imagine a new way, or the Light. The battle between Light (learning, awareness, understanding) and Dark (control, limitation, degradation) has been going on for more than two thousand years, but today the numbers are finally starting to tip in favor of the Light. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, the balance will shift and we, as a species, will unite as Earthlings.
